Bathroom fixtures to suit all needs

If you’re refurbishing your bathroom, you may not give too much thought to the type of basin you have fitted. Although we love a standard pedestal basin, it’s not the only option available these days.

Let’s take a look at some of the many options available to get the most from your basin for a better bathroom:

Possibly the most commonly used fixture of basin would be a pedestal style. This classic and standard style basin isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. An alternative to the floor-length pedestal is a half-sized one. This is similar in function to a floating vanity unit, where it allows you to see more floor area, enhancing the feeling of additional space.

Floating Vanity Unit

Floating vanity units have been around for many years and are a very popular choice for those who have a limited amount of space in their bathroom. The beauty of these units are that they are wall hung, enabling you to see floor space underneath. Insider tip: this tricks the eye into thinking the bathroom is larger than it is, due to more floor space being visible.

Let’s not forget, these units can hold a great amount of storage – ideal for stowing away all the family’s toiletries.

Side note: If space isn’t an issue and you like the idea of a floating vanity unit, but you’d prefer something a little more substantial, another option would be a full length vanity unit instead of wall hung.

Countertop basins

If you’re considering installing a countertop basin, which is a basin sitting proud on top of your chosen countertop or cabinet, these fit in well with either a traditional or ultra-modern scheme, depending on the type of basin and countertop you install.

Going for an ultra-modern and sleek look? You may want to use a marble or natural stone countertop i.e. granite, to achieve the high-end finish.

If you’re sticking to a more traditional style, a rustic type cabinet like the one in the image below, could give the country chic feel you’re looking for.

If you like the idea of a floating vanity unit but you also like the thought of placing the basin on top of a counter or cabinet, why not merge them for a unique take on mixing both styles?
